Algerian National Ballet to visit Korea for performance in Seoul

Algerian National Ballet will visit Korea for a series of performance as part of Arab Cultural Festival organized by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Its premier here in Seoul is slated for June 5, 2008 at 7:30pm at Hanul Theater in downtown Seoul, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Founded 34 years ago, the Algerian National Ballet has given more than 2,000 performances in over 50 countries.
For its first Korean tour, the program highlights traditional dances that reflect the Arab, Berber, and Mediterranean heritage of the North African nation. Featuring colorful native costumes from various regions of the country, many of the dances will be accompanied by musicians playing traditional instruments. Scenes from Algeria will be projected on a screen above the stage help set the mood for the performances.

"As our relations become stronger and stronger, it is necessary to expand and diversify to the greatest extent possible the kinds of contacts we have between our people,¡± said Algerian ambassador to Korea Rabah Hadid

The Algerian National Ballet will "bring out the beauty that lies in the diversity of our beautiful country " he said. "Our earnest hope is that this is only the beginning of a lasting dialogue between the people of Korea and Algeria."
